Hello, my name is Daniel Abraham Gebru, reigning Paralympic cycling champion for the Netherlands, but my roots are in Eritrea. Currently, I am mentoring young refugees in the Netherlands and trying to inspire them by showing them how sports can help them integrate in the Netherlands. In addition, I am working hard towards my goal of successfully defending my Olympic title later this year. I am happy to share my experiences, highs and lows with you on the road to Tokyo 2021!
Okay, I've been out of the dream world after my victory in the ITT at the World Championships for a while now and the full focus is now on the final preparations and training for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
In the weeks after the World Championships and Dutch Championships, I mainly focused on a series of endurance trainings and some final trainings behind the derny to keep up the speed. Fortunately, I was not affected by my fall during the national championships and I was able to complete the training
sessions as planned.

Because of the fall during the NK, there wasn't much left of the time trial suit that I wore, but luckily the people from FUTURUM were just as fast as the suit. Within no time, they let me know that a new suit was ready, which was of course an extra good reason to pay them a visit before my departure to the Sierra Nevada.
Of course I took my medal and jersey from the World Championships with me and some delicious cake to celebrate my victory together with the FUTURUM team. Every time I visit them, they surprise me with new products that they have just launched and this was also the case this time.
It has been known for a while that merino wool is not only worn during colder days, but now they even show that the merino can be used in products for the extra hot days. They gave me the new XTRA COOL Merino Socks and I am amazed how thin and cool they feel during intensive training on those hot days.
Highly recommended!
At this moment I am high up in the Sierra Nevada mountains again to continue working on the right shape for the Olympics. The surroundings have become familiar and I have already completed my first quiet endurance run. I will stay here for a few more weeks, until I leave for Portugal around the
5th of August to do the last training sessions on the cycling track there and then the 17th of August is the day it's really going to happen. Our departure for Tokyo! It would be super if you follow and encourage me on STRAVA and Instagram.
Sorry for the relatively short update this time. I'll try to give an update from the Sierra Nevada soon again!
See you soon, Daniel
