The Daniel Chronicles | Episode #6 | Daniel Abraham Gebru
FUTURUM Base Layers

Episode #6

Time flies..... I can't believe that it's March already, but the birds that are singing earlier and earlier each day, confirm that winter is coming to an end now. It's good to be back in the Netherlands with my family and I have been able to get a good training rhythm the pas few weeks. Let me know how you got through winter and what your goals are by sending me a message on Strava.

I have been doing some intensive cadence trainings on my indoor trainer lately. 20-30 seconds intervals at 170/180 rpm and even though I like pushing myself hard, my back didn't really agree. An annoying pain in my back began to present itself and I went straight to the physiotherapist to have it treated. It soon became clear that one of my vertebrae is not quite happy at the moment :-). Fortunately, the treatments seem to work and it doesn't bother me much in the normal cycling position, but the starts on the track bike are painful! To recover even faster, I also paid a visit to a famous miracle doctor in the Netherlands, Cor van Wanrooij. Mr. van Wanrooij is already over 80, but still many top athletes come tohim for his treatments. He is a great man and his track record is impressive. It's nice to see that he still treats athletes out of passion.

Last Tuesday I paid a visit to the FUTURUM HQ in Apeldoorn and had a nice meeting with the people there. FUTURUM is supporting me this year with the clothing and accessories I need and they are finalizing my all clothing for the races at the moment. The design is just great and I'm looking forward to present it to you soon. It'll be very different from what you are used to, I can tell you that already! I also picked up my new WAHOO ELEMNT ROAM there. Special thanks to WAHOO for supporting me with this great device.

Wow! Did you see that I'm selected as participant in the MISSION 48.1000?! I'm so excited that I will be one of the very few to participate in this extremely challenging 48hrs event and I will prove the guys wrong, by finishing it. They think none of the participants will finish, but I think it should be possible. It will be hard though, because of the rules that apply. If you haven't heard about the event yet and you're curious what the details are, you can check out the website here: Mission 48.1000
The FUTURUM folks mentioned that they received many applications and that they have to let many of them know that they aren't selected. However, I also picked up that there will be an "easy" version during the same weekend, which will be open for all. I'll let you know once I have more info! Would be great if as many of you as possible can do an extreme challenge that weekend as well, so that we can support each other through social media channels!

I'm heading to the indoor track in Apeldoorn now for yet another training. Focussed on my Road to Tokyo!

Enjoy riding your bikes!
Regards, Daniel
